Early Signs of AutismChild Development Media » Intervention & Prevention » Early Signs of AutismAutism is one of the most elusive and damaging of all childhood disorders: at an early age, a shell forms around the child’s personality, drawing him inside an internal world and losing his capacity to relate to the world around him. The later it is diagnosed, the further removed the child becomes, and thus more difficult to treat. But current research suggests that early signs can be identified, and if intervention can take place quickly, can often prevent the autistic withdrawal of the child. All titles in this section discuss various aspects of early autistic indicators, the many forms they can take, and steps that can be taken for early intervention. Many titles come from presentations given at the First International Conference On Signs of Autism in Infants, held in 2006 in Los Angeles, CA, and hosted by Child Development Media. This, first in the series, DVD addresses the need for early identification of Autism Spectrum Disorder by providing instruction in how to observe key behaviors in young children to help make a judgment about possible autism. Video illustrations from home movies of children with autism spectrum disorder are compared to typically developing children filmed for this project.
